This Privacy Policy explains what personal information The Crunch List collects, how it uses and discloses that information, and the choices available to visitors, contributors, and business members.
1. Scope and Operator
This Privacy Policy applies when you visit thecrunchlist.com, create or manage an account, submit or claim a business listing, recommend a business, contribute content, purchase or manage a membership, submit a Crunchy Deal, subscribe to communications, contact us, or otherwise use The Crunch List services.
The service is operated by The Crunch List (referred to in this Policy as “The Crunch List,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Policy does not govern independently operated businesses or third-party services linked from the site.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
Depending on how you use the service, you may provide:
- Contact information, such as your name, email address, telephone number, and mailing address.
- Account information, login credentials, communication preferences, and information used to confirm that you are authorized to act for a business.
- Business listing information, including business names, locations, service areas, websites, hours, descriptions, categories, distinctive attributes, photographs, logos, and social media links.
- Community recommendations, reviews or explanations, corrections, messages, feedback, and support requests.
- Contributor information and content submitted for Crunch Guides or other editorial features, including bylines, biographies, credentials, images, and source material.
- Crunchy Deals and other promotional information submitted by participating businesses.
- Membership selections and limited billing details associated with transactions.
- Any other information you choose to include in a form, message, or submission.
2.2 Payment and Subscription Information
Stripe processes payments for paid annual memberships. When you purchase or manage a membership, Stripe collects the payment and billing information needed to process the transaction and administer recurring billing. The Crunch List does not receive or intentionally store complete payment card numbers or card security codes.
We may receive limited information from Stripe, such as the member name and billing contact details, membership plan, payment status, billing dates, renewal date, cancellation status, transaction or customer identifiers, and limited card details such as brand and last four digits. We use this information to provide membership access, administer annual renewals, send membership communications, address billing questions, and maintain business records.
Stripe handles personal information under its own privacy notice: https://stripe.com/privacy
2.3 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the website, the site and its service providers may automatically collect technical and usage information. Depending on the tools actually enabled, this may include IP address, device and browser type, operating system, pages viewed, referring pages, dates and times of access, approximate location derived from an IP address, cookie or similar identifiers, and activity used to diagnose errors or protect the service.
Section 8 describes the choices that apply if cookies, analytics, or similar technologies are enabled.
2.4 Information From Other Sources
We may receive business information from business owners, community members, contributors, public websites, public records, social media pages, and service providers. We may combine this information with information already associated with a listing or account. Information that is publicly available can still be personal information under applicable law.
3. How We Use Information
We may use personal information to:
- Operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website and directory.
- Create, publish, organize, verify, correct, and manage business listings.
- Create accounts, authenticate users, and confirm authority to manage a business listing.
- Review community recommendations, contributor submissions, Crunch Guides, and Crunchy Deals.
- Process paid memberships through Stripe and manage plan access, renewals, reminder notices, cancellations, and downgrades.
- Provide customer support and respond to questions, privacy requests, listing corrections, and billing concerns.
- Send service-related communications, including account, security, payment, membership, and renewal messages.
- Send newsletters or promotional communications when permitted by law and consistent with your choices.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Comply with legal obligations, enforce agreements, resolve disputes, and maintain tax, accounting, and transaction records.
- Create aggregated or deidentified information for analysis, provided we do not use it to identify you.
4. Public Listings and Contributions
The Crunch List is a public directory. Information included in a published business listing, Community Recommended submission, Business Confirmed profile, Crunch Guide, contributor biography, Crunchy Deal, or other public feature can be viewed, copied, indexed, or shared by others. Do not submit private information that you do not want published.
A business owner or contributor may ask us to correct or remove eligible information by contacting us. We may retain limited records when reasonably necessary to document the request, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, or comply with law. Removing information from our site may not remove copies previously made by search engines, archives, or third parties.
5. Annual Membership Administration
Paid plans renew automatically each year until canceled. We use membership and transaction information to maintain access, process annual renewals through Stripe, send an advance renewal reminder, record cancellation status, and keep paid benefits active through the end of the paid billing period.
Members can cancel future renewal from /dashboard by selecting Manage Billing and following the instructions in the Stripe Customer Portal. At the end of the paid period, the listing downgrades to the Free tier. We may keep transaction and subscription records after cancellation for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, chargeback, dispute, and legal purposes.
6. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information in the following circumstances:
- Public content. We publish information that is intended for business listings, guides, contributor features, recommendations, deals, and other public areas.
- Service providers. We may disclose information to vendors that support hosting, databases, security, email delivery, analytics, customer support, and other business operations, subject to appropriate contractual or legal restrictions where required.
- Stripe. We exchange payment, account, and subscription information with Stripe to process payments and administer memberships.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, investigate misuse, enforce our agreements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of The Crunch List, users, businesses, or others.
- Business transfers. Information may be disclosed or transferred in connection with a proposed or completed merger, financing, acquisition, sale, reorganization, bankruptcy, or transfer of assets, subject to applicable law.
- With your direction or consent. We may disclose information when you ask us to or otherwise authorize the disclosure.
We do not sell personal information in exchange for money.
7. Printify Merchandise Storefront
The Crunch List may link to a merchandise storefront operated by Printify or a merchant using Printify. When you follow that link or place an order, you interact with an external storefront. The storefront, payment providers, shipping providers, and other participants in the order may collect contact, payment, shipping, and order information under their own terms and privacy notices.
Unless the checkout expressly identifies The Crunch List as the party collecting the information, The Crunch List does not directly collect complete payment card details or fulfill orders placed through the external storefront. We may receive limited order, referral, customer-service, or royalty information if the storefront provides it. Review the notices displayed by the external storefront before purchasing.
8. Cookies, Analytics and Browser Choices
Cookies and similar technologies may be used for functions such as keeping users signed in, remembering preferences, securing accounts, measuring site use, and diagnosing performance. Browser controls can often block or delete cookies, but disabling necessary cookies may prevent some features from working.
If nonessential analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies are enabled, The Crunch List will provide any notice, consent mechanism, or opt-out required by applicable law.
9. Communications and Your Choices
We may send transactional or service messages about accounts, security, listings, payments, memberships, renewals, and changes that affect the service. These messages are not marketing messages and may continue while an account or membership remains active.
You may ask us to stop sending promotional emails by contacting admin@thecrunchlist.com. If a marketing message presents a working unsubscribe mechanism, you may also use that mechanism. Opting out of marketing does not stop necessary transactional or service messages.
10. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the service, maintaining accurate directory records, keeping membership and transaction records, complying with tax or legal obligations, resolving disputes, and protecting the service.
Retention periods vary by the type of information and the reason it is held. When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete, deidentify, or securely dispose of it, subject to backup cycles and legal requirements. Public listing information may remain available until it is corrected or removed under our directory practices.
11. Data Security
We maintain administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No website, storage system, or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Account holders are responsible for protecting their credentials and should notify us if they suspect unauthorized account activity.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information; receive a portable copy; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; or opt out of certain sales, sharing, or targeted advertising. These rights are not absolute, and lawful exceptions may apply.
To submit a request, contact admin@thecrunchlist.com and describe the request. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and authority. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
13. Children's Privacy
The Crunch List is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
14. External Services and Links
The site may link to listed businesses, social media services, maps, external stores, and other independent websites. The Crunch List does not control those services or their privacy practices. Review the privacy notice of each external service before providing information.
15. United States Processing
The Crunch List is based in the United States. If you access the service from another country, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where service providers operate. Applicable laws may differ from the laws in your location.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the service, legal requirements, or information practices. We will post the revised version with a new Last Updated date. We will provide additional notice when required by law. The version posted when you use the service governs the information practices described in that version.
